Google adds Docs, Sheets, & Slides shortcuts to App Launcher

It's not a tic-tack-toe board.

Although the App Launcher in Google Chrome is something I am warming towards; it's nice to have my favorite Google Apps in a Launch grouping.

Hangouts Dialer can now be used as a system dialer, replace your phone for good

As a Hangouts Dialer myself, I'm glad to see this enhancment... but it appears I'll need to wait for the iOS version.

Google is working towards making it easier to dial numbers from outside of the Hangouts app.

"Today we’re launching an update to Hangouts Dialer. You’ll now be able to use Dialer to place calls initiated from other apps like your browser or Maps, directly from the Hangouts Android app. Just select Hangouts Dialer when you’re choosing your call method."

Map creator in Google Chrome... Nice

I really like 'Google My Maps.'

Tired of texting or email the same directions over and over?

An image-map is worth a lot when communicating directions; especially to places not yet mapped in Google Maps.

So... I've created my first map to the Blue Ridge Community College Small Business Center in Flat Rock, NC (those are my blue lines in the map below).

Here is where I believe Google Drive will come-in.  The map link is shared similar to how other Google Drive files are shared in Google Drive.

By searching the topic 'Google My Maps' I was able to use Chrome to create a customized map, linked above.

Here is the Google Maps URL I used: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/ .

Note that I did not find 'Google My Maps' in Google Drive yet (as suggested in the article below).

Google shuffles its notification interface around, puts most functionality in Google+

Google+ notifications...

Was... a bell...

Now... a circle with a bell... with simpler functionality...

"We know notifications are an important way for you to remain connected to the content and people you are interested in on Google+. To this end, we are adding a dedicated view of notifications to the Google+ desktop site.

You can now browse notifications by clicking on the bell at the top right corner of the Google+ page. The new tray is a simple list that allows you to quickly scan all notifications and view the relevant content with a single click."

8 Cybersecurity Resolutions to Make for 2015

I am a fan of password vaults.

A business should consider a password vault to help manage all of a user's passwords and allow for centralized account management across various different applications.

ScaleUp WNC and Highland Brewery's Oscar Wong

Oscar Wong, Highland Brewery founder was the guest speaker at today's AdvantageWest Economic Development Group - ScaleUp WNC presentation.

When asked about internet marketing and his business, Oscar indicated:

  • Although he originally did not think he needed a website, a few years later  they added a website and have reaped rewards since.  Highland Brewery does not use a lot of print media because it is so expensive and have found digital media to provide much value.
  • Through social media and the the digital media platform they have 'done quite well' because they can better track the media and the responses.

4 Reasons Why You Should Be Treating Your Emails Like a Blog

4 Reasons Why You Should Be Treating Your Emails Like a Blog image typewriter for post1 150x150.png

4 reasons - and my comments:

  1. Images and visuals - every email needs to include at least one image because our brains do process images 60,000 times faster; especially mine.
  2. Content - yes, there are too many spam and low-value emails.  Never use use your email to push sub-standard content.
  3. Traffic quality - agreed, look for exceptional content offers and calls-to-action.
  4. Growth - content isn't just text.  As a blog grows, the use of images / infographics and videos increases.
