Smartphone security is of paramount importance - you are your phone

You are your phone: Why smartphone security is of paramount importance

After a big fireworks display earlier this month; like most afterwards, we scrambled to get to our car quickly.  Sadly, my son unknowingly dropped his phone.

It was then, we really knew the anxiety.  Our phones are strongly associated with each of us.

Thanks to a 'Find My Phone' app and an honest teenage finder, we got the phone back the next day.

Be prepared.  Think about smartphone security before you part with your phone (accidentally or when upgrading your device).

Google Enterprise - 10 areas where manufacturing could be revolutionized

  1. More effective supplier onboarding, coordination, collaboration and quality management that scales across multiple product lines and production centers.
  2. Streamline and simplify complex selling by providing greater contextual product, service and pricing in real-time, accelerating Configure Price Quote (CPQ) and product configuration strategies.
  3. Contextual customer and prospect intelligence delivered on mobile devices on a real-time basis to streamline sales and especially service.
  4. Google Glass gets to work on the shop floor. Using Google Glass to deliver accurate, 3D work instructions and providing real-time guidance on complex, configure-to-order and engineer-to-order products is possible with existing Google products.
  5. Reduce Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) through better customer, engineering, supplier and quality management collaboration
  6. Greater accuracy of sales funnels and greater insights to solve the difficult transition of marketing qualified to sales qualified leads.
  7. Real-time customer analytics across all manufacturing selling and service channels.
  8. Loosen the grip of legacy ERP systems using the new Google Cloud Dataflow and legacy APIs to get more value out of existing systems
  9. Making Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) data more usable in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
  10. Managing new product launches across a diverse base of distributors, direct sales, indirect sales, resellers, and partners using cloud-based analytics and reporting applications.

Net neutrality is important for small businesses and customers

It would be bad for businesses and customers if net neutrality does not remain open.
If you sell anything on the Web, your site and listings will load more slowly than your conglomerate competitors. If your customers want to find information about your business and your site delays in loading, they will click away.
Write the FCC now.  More details at:

Google and a right to be forgotten?

Europe is setting a precedence.

Who, what, when, and why should world wide web information be removed?

"The real problem is the impossibility of an accountable, transparent, and effective censorship regime in the digital age, and the inevitable collateral damage borne of any attempt to create one, even from the best intentions"

Web audit: Wrong business hours posted on Google = business loosing sale(s)

Google search of my favorite local ice cream shop returns an incorrect closing hour of 7:00 p.m.
At 9:00 p.m., I thought I couldn't get an ice cream.  Turns out they are actually close at 10:00 p.m.
They almost lost a sale from me!   I made the clerk aware of this and she indicated they were currently in expanded seasonal hours.  Reading the article below, it appears anybody can update the store hours.
The store clerk should update their hours if they want to maximize the use of the free Google search to increase business.

Neglecting web technology... read why this small business owner had to close due to incorrect posted hours...

Hard Proof That Wiping Your Phone Doesn't Actually Delete Everything
"The recovery of data from an iPhone vs. an Android device is more challenging because of the protections that Apple puts in the security stack. Apple does a better job in their secure-wipe routine than what appears to happen with third-party apps on Android."
