U.S. pushes pedal on car-to-car communication

It is something that we believe can have a huge impact on preventing accidents from ever happening – and in helping us eventually produce a car that can drive itself better than a human can.

Bunker ring, a smart accessory for you smartphone

Why is the bunker ring a smart iPhone accessory?

  1. Larger smart phones are slightly harder to grasp.  With this ring attached to the back of your phone or phone case, you have a very secure hold of your phone.
  2. Put a lanyard with it and you can easily wear your phone around your neck.
  3. Stand-up your phone with this accessory.
  4. Pivot the ring flat against the phone when not is use.
  5. Many options available on Amazon.

Very cool Andrea!  Thank you for sharing during the AB Tech iPhone class.

Anything but perfect: Self-driving cars can’t escape fender-benders

What is your acceptance level of technology?

A chief selling point for Google’s self-driving cars is safety. Their cameras, radar and laser sensors give them a far more detailed understanding of their surroundings than humans have, the company says. Their reaction times also should be faster. Cars could be programmed to adjust if they sense a crash coming — move a few feet, tighten the seat belts, honk the horn or flash the lights in hope of alerting a distracted driver. A higher priority so far is teaching them to avoid causing a serious accident that could set public and political acceptance of the technology back years.

Florida woman escapes hostage situation via Pizza Hut app

Glad to hear of a positive outcome with this unusual use of an app.

It’s just something she did so naturally. The boyfriend never knew about it until he saw us coming around the corner.

I’ve been here 28 years and never, never seen nothing like that come through.

Facebook

  • Safety Check - individuals being marked as safe, but...
"There is a very slippery moral slope in determining what is a disaster, especially from the safe confines of Silicon Valley. I don’t feel comfortable leaving it up to Facebook to decide which disasters are worthy of social media support or not. I would much rather see the Safety Check feature managed or at least influenced by local Red Cross or Red Crescent organizations and government emergency response agencies.
